Skiers may be surprised to learn that the ubiquitous Civilian Conservation Corps trail builders made their presence felt all the way to Mount Megunticook. The current Slope Trail on the north side of Mount Megunticook is the approximate location of an old hand-graded CCC ski trail that was rated intermediate to expert. In its heydey, it was 30 to 60 feet wide. The trail was relocated in 1977 because of serious erosion problems.
